The 2020 Carlisle Youth Zone Family Fun Run

The second annual Carlisle Youth Zone Family Fun Run went ahead at Carlisle United this weekend. Dozens turned out to complete the 2km course dressed in their brightly coloured T-Shirts, designed by 9 year old Kayla.

Kingmoor Park Properties were delighted to sponsor the event for a second year which saw T-Shirts, medals and even more young people and their families participate.

Speaking on this, Managing Director Neil McIntyre said  “We were delighted to support this event for a second year. The Carlisle Youth Zone Family Fun Run was started as a bolt on to the main Carlisle Half marathon with the aim of being an all inclusive family event. This was made all the more pivotal this year given the current uncertainties.”

The event is well supported by Carlisle Youth Zone with lots of their members taking part and running alongside youth workers.

Emma Rogerson, Development coordinator at Carlisle Youth Zone said, ” It was amazing to see so many young people and their families turn out to participate in the fun run. The event presented opportunity to bring communities together for some well needed fresh air and fun especially with all that is going on right now. It is with thanks to Kingmoor park who not only sponsored the fun run, but also generously donated free race entry to 50 CYZ members and their families, enabling those who wouldn’t ordinarily participate to come and join in the fun.

Most young people I work with lack the confidence, self-belief and resilience needed to push through some of the challenges they face. I had the privilege of running alongside some of those young people and to see them challenge themselves to achieve something they previously wouldn’t have thought possible, it was inspiring!  Young people were beaming with success, and claiming their medals upon crossing the finishing line topped off a truly awesome event.

The 2021 Fun Run and Carlisle Half Marathon is scheduled to go ahead on March 21st. More information to coming on this soon.
