Kingmoor Park recently have recently joined with Fork and Spoon (formerly Sandwich Club) who are based on site and their chosen charity, Carlisle Youth Zone to create a fun competition which they hope will raise both vital funds and awareness for the local charity.

The challenge was for young people to create a sandwich from pork based ingredients and after sifting through dozens of entries, Katie Kelly (8 years old) was chosen.

Katie is a Youth Zone member and was delighted to collect her prize and meet Sean Mullinder who will be creating the sandwich using ingredients chosen by her to sell in his shop. The charity support thousands of young people in Carlisle each year. 2020 has been no different as they have increased their outreach and continued to support those who need the service most.

Speaking on the competition, Carlisle Youth Zone’s Development Coordinator, Emma Rogerson said;

“We always enjoy partnering up with businesses to launch ideas and competitions that engage young people and their families and Kingmoor Pork was such a fun idea! The kids really enjoyed creating their designs with the prospect of their very own sandwich going on sale. These types of competitions really help young people understand that CYZ is a charity, and they get a lot from that, knowing they’re doing a little something positive and giving back. It was inspiring to see the winner Katie smile, knowing her design was chosen as the winner and her learning that a contribution from the sale of each sandwich would help CYZ buy pens, crafts and even footballs for some of the activities she regularly takes part in! We’d just like to say thank you to Kingmoor Park and Sean and Helen at the Fork & Spoon. The continued support from local businesses is really appreciated, now more than ever.”

The sandwich will be on sale at Fork and Spoon (opposite Kingmoor Park’s office) from 9th November with 50p from the sale of each going straight to Carlisle Youth Zone.  To find out more about how you can support the Youth Zone email Emma.Rogerson@carlisleyouthzone.org
