Planning permission has been granted by Carlisle City Council for the creation of a 4-acre solar farm to be located on open farmland on the Brunthill Estate in the middle of Kingmoor Park.

Now that the planning consent has been granted. The project management team are preparing a schedule of work for the 3,000-ground mounted solar, photo voltaic panels each measuring 1.6 x 0.9m, to be installed.

The 4-acre solar farm could be up and running early next year providing 877,000kWh (kilo watt hours) of electricity per annum approximately equivalent to 15% of Kingmoor Park’s energy needs which will save around 250 tonnes of C02 per year.

Neil McIntyre, Kingmoor Park’s Managing Director Said:

“We are delighted to move this development to the next phase. The solar farm is crucial for ensuring that our private electricity supply is sustainable, economical and has the capacity to grow as the site will.

We are continually looking for ways to safeguard the site’s future energy needs and, in this case, we are working very closely with Solar Maintenance Services and North Lakes Energy to ensure that we are proving the best energy solutions for the site as a whole.”

James Mclinden, Managing Director of Solar Maintenance Services comments:

“This marks a significant first step in Kingmoor Park’s strategy to support a sustainable future. We are looking forward to building the solar field and working with Neil and his team, as they seek to expand the scope of their Environmentally friendly measures. Eventually see the business park as a sustainability leader in the region. North Lakes Energy Group are delighted to be a part of the journey.”

Solar Maintenance Services look after around 50 megawatts of solar throughout the UK made up of other solar fields and some residential systems.

The solar farm will be located on Brunthill, an area of Kingmoor Park instrumental to the sites’ masterplan which will see a plan drawn out for new warehouses, office space and more developments in the coming years.
