Carlisle Northern Development Route & The Hub
The CNDR, a new arterial route currently under construction that comes straight through the middle of Kingmoor Park and create another link to the M6 for the estate, is also the catalyst for another major multi million pound development for Kingmoor Park.
Commenting on the “Hub” Tony Goddard, Chief Executive of Kingmoor Park said:
“The realisation of the CNDR is great news for Carlisle and Cumbria as a whole. Not only will the new road create a second link to the M6 for the site it will also open up access to the motorway network for west Cumbria enhancing the already exciting opportunities that exist for the “energy coast”. This mixed development will be based around one of the new roundabouts being created as part of the CNDR. The flagship of the project is a 130 bed, four-star hotel with conference facilities and a fitness centre. It will also include restaurants, bars, 100,000sqft of offices, neighbourhood shops, a bus terminus, fuel filling station and a crèche”
It is anticipated that the “Hub”, when completed, will create upwards of 1500 jobs on site. As part of the development, new pedestrian and cycle links will be created and existing ones enhanced throughout the site. Native tree and hedge planting will increase the amenity and environment of the park and encourage greater ecological diversity.
Outline planning permission was first granted by Carlisle City Council in June 2006. A year later, revised proposals were approved to include the hotel and leisure facilities. Phase 1 of the CNDR opened in August 2011 and Phase 2 is programmed for completion in April 2012.
